2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Box Break - Part 3 of 4

Pushing past the halfway mark in this box.

Pack #17:
Base: Cory Schneider
Team Logo Patch: Detroit Heritage Classic
Retro: Nathan Lieuwen

A really nice way to start off this portion of the box. You're not expecting hits in OPC, so having one come up is nice. These manupatches fall at a rate of about 1 in every 3 boxes. It is also nice to pull an interesting one. Knowing my luck sometimes, I could have ended up with one of the mustard coloured Nashville Predators ones. My only complaint was that as soon as I picked up the pack, I knew it would have one of these, since there was no give at all in the pack.
The backs are interesting as well.

Pack #18:
Base: Barret Jackman, Henrik Tallinder, Carl Soderberg, Fedor Tyutin, Blake Wheeler
Black Rainbow /100: Mike Green
SP Marquee Legend: Brian Bellows
Retro Marquee Legend: Doug Harvey

2 straight interesting packs! The base is pretty bland, but it gets good fast in the end. I don't think the Green is as nice as the Kane, but it is the second of the promised black rainbow parallels in the box. Bellows is a Kitchener Rangers alum, and part of their first Memorial Cup winning team. It is nice to see him get some love in this section of the set. He hasn't made too many appearances lately in recent sets. Ditto for Doug Harvey.

Pack #19:
Base: Bryan Little, Kevin Bieksa, Daniel Briere, Nido Niederreiter, Shawn Matthias, Mathieu Perreault
SP: Ryan Sproul
Retro: Alexander Semin

Yeah, this was pretty boring, even with the SP rookie. When you want to scan one card per pack, might as well do the one with the most fun name of the bunch.

Pack #20:
Base: Alexander Semin, Matt Niskanen, Henrik Sedin, Corey Crawford, Brandon Pirri, Mark STuart
Rainbow: Jay Bouwmeester
Retro: Kimmo Timonen

A mask card highlights this, along with a nice looking rainbow card. The Blues uniform looks really nice with the rainbow design.

Pack #21:
Base: Kimmo Timonen, Sami Salo, Paul Stastny, Vincent Lecavalier, Brian Elliott, Erik Huala
Stickers: Shea Weber
Retro: Alexander Barkov

Back to back packs where the retro card in the previous pack shows up as the first base card in the next pack. These stickers look even nicer in their horizontal form. And yes, this was #21 in the set. But I'll take improved collation for the base cards over improved collation on the stickers.

Pack #22:
Base: Evgeni Malkin, Mark Giordano, Mikkel Boedker, Marc Methot, Craig Anderson, Alexandre Burrows
SP Legend: Guy LaFleur
Retro: Patrick Marleau

A good pack for the base cards. A marquee name opens it up. 2 Senators, and a Kitchener Rangers alum.

Pack #23:
Base: Jonathan Toews, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Nathan Horton, Tomas Hertl, Mike Smith, Roberto Luongo
SP Rookie: Andrew Campbell
Retro: Joel Ward

Now that is a strong group of base cards. 3 members of Canada's Olympic team highlight this. And RNH and Hertl appearances are also nothing to sneeze at. When Nathan Horton is the worst of the base cards you pull in a large set, that is a really good pack.

Pack #24:
Base: Ben Scrivens, Dustin Brown, Cal Clutterbuck, Roman Josi, Adam McQuiad
Rainbow: Pierre Turgeon
Sticker: Sergei Bobrovsky
Retro: Nail Yakupov

Scrivens has a simple mask, but it is spectacular and works beautifully with the logo. It is nice to see Turgeon among the Legends in this year's set. Bobrovsky is sticker #22. Why do you ask?

And that's another quarter of a box. The 1 in 3 box hit wins this portion easily, but there were some really good cards among the base and parallels as well. I really like the player choices in the Legends this year.

  1. That's actually a pretty cool manupatch, and like you said the back is interesting for once too!
